The Towel Hand Grip Strengthening Exercise

If you are suffering from hand weakness or have in the past, you may benefit from physical therapy and simple exercises to help strength the muscles of your forearm, hands and fingers.

Common problems that may lead to hand weakness include:

  • Stroke
  • Colles’ fracture
  • Smith’s fracture
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Cervical Radiculopathy
  • Inactivity/Lack of Movement

An example of a simple exercise that you can do in the comfort of your home to regain strength in your hand is the towel handgrip exercise. This quick and easy exercise can be achieved through the following steps:

  1. Secure a hand towel of sorts
  2. Fold the towel in half
  3. Roll the towel into a cylinder
  4. Grip the towel with your weak hand
  5. Firmly squeeze the towel and hold pressure for 5-10 seconds
  6. Release your grip
  7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 ten to fifteen times
